Bartelings Jung

Mr. Bartelings started his training in WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) style Tae Kwon Do (TKD) at the age of 14 under Mr. Darrell Willim and Grandmaster Chang Beck Choi, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Upon graduating from high school, Mr. B took a haitus from TKD training and spent a year studying brazilian jiujitsu (Gracie/Machado) under Sheldon Labee. This opened his eyes to a completely new world of engagment. He competed in two grappling and free fighting events during this time. Mr. B continues to grapple with his collegues.

Upon returning to TKD training, Mr. B joined Bae's Taekwondo (now Bae's Martial Arts Training Centre) under the instruction of Malcolm Edwatrds III (Master) and senior instructors Shane Williams and Robert Cole. His first months of training at Bae's remain some of the most challenging he's ever had.

After training at Bae's for several months, Mr. Bartelings began competing in local sport karate tournaments, quickly becoming a multiple grandchampion winner in sparring and traditional forms (all thanks to incredible trainers). In May of 2005, he became the Canadian National weapons and Korean forms champion, and represented Canada later that year at the WKA world championships. He continues to compete when time allows.

In 2009, Mr. B began his training in the filipino art of arnis under Hari Dante Alambra and Unang-Batikan Dastin Alambra in the family system Burokil Alambra Arnis de Mano.

Mr. Hyun
started his training in Korea at the age of 4. His first master (GM Han) was a former special forces officer in Korea, who taught military taekwondo (Ohdokwan) that emphasized techniques that are "not typical of TKD", but with more emphasis on offense than defense. During his school years, Mr. Hyun was a member of the school's TKD team.

After moving to Vancouver, BC in 1997, he started training under GM Lee (Songmookwan). In time, he started teaching at one of Mr. Lee's dojangs (schools/gyms).  During this time, Mr. Hyun trained with a former RCMP chief superintendent and some of his colleagues.

While in Vancouver, Mr. Hyun was an active and successful competitor (mostly WTF tournaments), having won both the BC championship (jr. heavy weight) and US open tournament (adult, middle weight).

In 2001, Mr. Hyun moved to Ottawa for his studies and started training on his own and with people from other styles (judo, kickboxing, and kyokushin). This was the beginning of his interaction with other styles. Between 2001 and 2005, he worked at bars and restaurants, and taught self defense to the staff.

A year after moving to Winnipeg in 2005, Mr. Hyun joined the U of M Tae Kwon Do Academy, and soon became one of its instructors. In the last few years, he has delved into the grappling arts to expand his repertoire.
